Gear lever/ Gear Linkage
Hi all, Could anyone shed any light on this for me please, After looking in the Haynes manual and online, the plate at the bottom of the gear lever is mounted on the inside of the bodywork,
but on mine its underneath the bodywork? I thought maybe it had been modified for some reason but it all looks original and there are no holes where the plate would have been? Also the gear linkage is different to anything else I can find. Would really appreciate any help!- Attachments

You need to state what the specs of your vehicle are ie Aircooled , watercooled , 4 or 5 speed age etc. From your photo it looks like you have the raised up centre cab floor used only on post 85 Turbo diesel models, this had the extended gear lever box that was bolted underneath the cab floor.

Hi Mate, I've got a 1990 water-cooled 4 speed 1.9 Diesel, used to be a 1.6 D.

Re: Gear lever/ Gear Linkage
probably used to be a 1.6TD the n/a engine had been dropped by 1990, the type number on the plate under the left front seat will tell you what it was originally
so yes you have the TD set up with the false floor plate, it means access is from below, you can remove the whole stick and false floor assembly downwards to work on otherwise it's the same as the petrol set up shown in the haynes

Re: Gear lever/ Gear Linkage
Thanks for the info guys really appreciate it. So yes I must have the TD set up, would this make the gear linkage slightly different as well? Also I think I'm going to need my 4 speed box refurbished as can no longer get 3rd gear (Jumps out of 2nd when accelerating) sounds bad and now gear oil everywhere! Arrrrr. Would you be the man to speak to about this Aiden?
