First thing I would do is put the old fuel filter back on and see if that's the cause.

Have you washed crap into the carbs ?

In future just change 1 thing at a time ... easier to eliminate where Captain "cock"-up paid a surprise visit.

Short on petrol. It needs to pump all the way from the front. Depress pedal twice or chock on and try again

^^^^^^^^^ took ages to fire mine up after changing fuel lines etc. Sprayed carb cleaner down the carb to get it firing , after pulling fuel through with a hand pump.

just tried it again having filled tank up and changing fuel filter back to original, and to be honest the problem is worse!! i can just about get the van to fire up by pumping the accelerator, but then get smoke out of the exhaust and massive back fire if, and the he just cuts out. grrrr!!!

Try putting a small drop of petrol directly in the carb and see if it fires.

yeh that works but it fires then starts back firing really badly and judders and coughs and cuts out. I can see there is fuel getting to the carbs.

Blocked carb jet(s) ... hence the popping and farting.

If you've done nothing to the carb in living memory, pick up a carb gasket kit from ebay and replace all gaskets and diaphrams as well as giving the carb a really good clean through. Some really useful videos on youtube if you're a novice. Your other thread points to the same cause by the way.

Probably a tin of Airduster to blow the jets out would be a good starting point if you have access to an airline and blowgun then even better... that's PRIOR to stripping anything of course.

right so i stripped both carbs down and blew out all the jets and cleaned everything else with carb cleaner. One of the jets was slightly blocked. All back together and a good jet of fuel coming into each carb but now my van wont start. It feels and sounds like its really close but wont quite fire up.....any suggestions?
