Coolant hose bleed union - broken pipe

Post by andilad »

Hi,
So I have snapped the small pipe which comes back from the large union which joins the four coolant pipes behind the engine on a DG Early

Unfortunately, I'm also a Auto, so the replacement union needs two more pipes to the box; and these are not available!

I have posted in the Wanted for a spare, but I wanted to ask the wisdom of the forum, for if I can jury rig it, as the part search seems like a long one, and I need to move the vehicle in the next couple of weeks.

In essence, I'm wondering if I can block off the hole on the union, and terminate the pipe it feeds to; what would be the impact?

I'm not clear what this would do, the pipe is small bore so feels like it is going to be mostly a high point for the bleed - but could easily be wrong?

Thanks in advance!

I'm assuming you mean the early water system ?

85 could be early late , or late early .

Cast metal ones available in the US, should end up here at some point. As a bleed point, I never found it much use to be honest.

Yep that's a lot of money!!

I think I have fixed it up today, used a 6mm to 4mm reducer pipe and hope it might last long enough for me to source a pre-loved one at a better price.

But I'm really wondering if anyone knows the purpose of the small pipe, is it a high point for air to bleed or is it actually making a functional water circuit? as it is such a small bore, I'm thinking it is air ??
