recon engine
Hi all
I have now decide that I need to replace my engine with a reconditioned one. 1900 1984 water cooled DG.
Can anyone suggest a good supplier? At the moment I am considering 'The VW engine company'. Has anyone had an engine from them and what are their thoughts.
Any ideas would be gratefully received!

Re: recon engine
no no, have a look online first lots of people with problems, some people report no problems but I think they are in the minority, you will not get a proper recon engine for the money they charge you are looking at about £3000 for a properly built engine with correct new parts fitted, spend time checking before you spend your money

I used Mario at MV Engineering in Telford. Didn't pay peanuts and I didn't get monkey's.

Re: recon engine
Although my eight year old £900 Elite 2.1 WBX warranty rebuild is till going strong I am conscious of the need to have a plan should it go bang.
In my 60 odd years of powered transport this was the first time I had entrusted a rebuild to anyone other than myself and...
I would like to do my own WBX rebuild but sourcing the specialist info, machinists etc plus parts would be more than I would want to take on now.
So I have an ear open for likely engine rebuilders.
You never know though the Elite job may go on for a few years yet.
MV Engineering in Telford didn't come up for WBX Engine rebuilds until you dug into the various web entry's and Face book so there's a possibility.

BTW Nowadays pay peanuts get poor people is another angle.

Unfortunately Campershack only install recon engines from a supplier of my choice.
This is where the problem lies, trying to find a reliable recon engine supplier!

I always understood that MV were diesel specialists, so I'd be surprised if they were doing WBX rebuilds. No harm in asking though.

Re: recon engine
MV Engineering work on all sorts of stuff. They like shoe horning big lumps into little spaces or squeezing as much power out of standard blocks. Right petrol heads, the lot of them.

I'm not sure who (or which Campershack!?) you've been speaking to, but that is completely back to front.Wear Sunscreen wrote:Unfortunately Campershack only install recon engines from a supplier of my choice.

I only fit my own rebuilds now, as all the engines I've had in the past from other suppliers have been rubbish - never had one yet that I could just fit without having to repair it first! Then I've spent time representing customers for their warranty claims against these third party companies, which I've usually succeeded in, but nobody wants to pay for my time.
Hence I decided to just build my own, properly. I'm never going to be the cheapest, because just the new parts I fit cost around double the price of the cheapest engine. And I can't take any new build orders until next year now, as I'm fully booked for 2017, but will be opening the 2018 diary for bookings from next month.
