Solex PICT 34 on a 1.9 DG

Post by bonus999 »

Hello there,

I have an 84 Devon Moonraker (33 years in the family) with a 1.9 DG engine, this is not the original engine, it was replaced about 15 years ago and I'm not sure what was there before, my dad was talked into it at the time.

As the title suggests, I have a PICT 34 on there and I have been told that it should be a Pierberg 2E3. Also, some research tells me the same.

I am told that the Solex cannot deliver enough for the DG?

Currently, its running a bit rich and some misfiring, especially when the engine is labouring.

I have some options,
1. Fit a Pierberg
2. Fit a weber
3. Solex will be OK and get a rebuild kit.

I would be very grateful for some input on this.

cheers
Bruce

update...

I searched the technical and wiki and all I had to do was look a few lines down and see another Solex DG post!
I have all the same issues.

It must have been a DF engine before, I have the rubber mount.

Still need some advice on the best choice of 1, 2 or 3 though.

Running with an electric fuel pump now as well

If it's a DG and I say IF , then a 2e3 is what it was designed to have and what it will work best with
They are available new , but you will need to purchase a DG inlet manifold and pipe work and electrical loom ...
Plenty about....

I've seen them with that pict 34 fitted, i think it's just the early set up .if you change it you will need to change the air filter pipe work etc

Thanks chaps. I'm going to go for the rebuild kit and go from there. I'll keep an eye out for a pierburg and inlet manifold etc on the usual sale sites and change it over in time.

My van had a df originally but was replaced with a dg. Fairly common to keep the soles. It's fine but does not allow the engine to breathe fully. Avoid the Webber. I've got a Pierburg air filter top of carb bit if you need one.

First of all, I cannot believe its another year on from my original post... I am sorry that I have not been in touch.

I still have not managed to do anything with the carb but now I have the time and looking at my options.

I have the Solex still on there and it is definitely a DG engine.

JK offer a Brosol kit and its on offer atm.

It looks to me that I have the electrical choke connection, do you think I would be able to connect that straight on to the Brosol?

Does anyone think there is anything else that I would need or would it fit straight on?

This seems to me the best option.

Waultraud - do you still have the top of carb bit?
