DJ 2.1 AUTO THROTTLE ISSUE

Post by maxstu »

Throttle pedal is very heavy. Far more so than my old 1.9 manual. Is their an issue to concern me? Or any way to reduce pressure at pedal? Engine runs fine ....just getting a dead leg driving distances?

Check if somebody added some extra springs to the throttle, quite common it seems.

Thanks to both. There is a light weight spring at thottle lever in engine bay. Yet it doesnt look very powerful. Will check linkage when possible.

I have the same issue with mine, it’s also a 2.1 DJ Auto and its so stiff that it like I’m trying to race everybody away from traffic lights with the amount of pressure needed on the pedal.

I have read on here to clean and lube the cable linkage on the side of the gearbox, I did have a look under mine but it seems very hard to get to!

I had this problem. I think it may be my post that you saw, the stiffness was caused by the throttle cabe being corroded underneath.
Moving off required a fairly hard push on the throttle after which less pressure was required to go faster... On slowing, taking my foot off, sometimes the throttle wouldnt close completely...
I lived with it for a while untill the throttle cable snapped.... It was a bit of a bugger job to fit, double jointed small hands with vice like grip required.
I think it took me a couple of hours, Jacking and supporting the back end on axel stands. Once done the transformation was amazing.

Two years on and decided to tackle stiff throttle on my DJ 2.1.
VERY close to breaking point. And the cup was rusted solid to ball on support bracket beside gearbox. I had to split it to release.
Replaced with new cable (a pain in the transom to do) and now light as a feather.
