Auto Trans Rebuild - Yorkshire way?

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

Auto Trans Rebuild - Yorkshire way?

Post by badgerwhisper »

Can anyone recommend an automatic transmission specialist around Sheffield (or even North of the Watford gap :D ?)

My 1.9 Auto first has become very clunky going into drive and then when running in to second gear. When fully loaded coming back from Cornwall this week it started slipping in third. Not good with the kids in the back and an HGV up your backside.

ATF level was fine, changed it anyway and it sill had a red sheen to it. Few bits of tiny metal shards in the filter but not a massive amount. Rather than double guess whether its torque convertor or something else etc etc think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and get some one who knows auto boxes to have a look / suggest the dreaded rebuild. Found one guy within crawling distance who's dealt with them before but he's quoted £2k for a rebuild and reckoned it couldn't be done for cheaper - nice fella though. Perhaps all T25 Auto drivers should start crowd funding to set up parts manufacturer, sure it will work out cheaper in the long run?

I'm sure I could find someone with experience and cheaper elsewhere (have read some other posts with interest) but I'd prefer to actually drive it to them and discuss it etc rather than drop it and send it via pallet.

Cheers
