Starter information is Aircooled the same as watercooled?

Post by robertwatters »

A stupid question I know! But I have only had an Aircooled for the last 18 years or so (same one). My mechanical knowledge has increased to the point where I know that in the famous words of Manuel in Fawlty Towers "I Know nothing!".
There is someone selling a second hand watercooled starter that is not too far to fetch but is far enough to make me be sure I'm not buying a pig in a poke.
My other alternative is buying a repair kit for my an old Bosch which I was told needed new internal bushes. I had kept this after buying a replacement!

INFORMATION required

1. Where to get repair kit. Bosch repair kit for 0 001 208 428 429

2. Is the starter for later water cooled the same as Aircooled 1982. I can get a water cooled starter within travelling distance.

Any information appreciated.

Yes and No. the motor is the same but the the battery mounting stud is longer on the watercooled, you can fit watercooled to an Aircooled, but not easily the other way round.
