Quickshift kit. Cant find gears very well

Post by mshaw1980 »

So I bought a quick shift kit after rebuilding all the gear linkage bushes, pins etc, except for the actual cup that the ball on the gearbox selector actually sits in. Also have a new gearstick as the one before was bent. Expected a massive gear change improvement but struggling to get first and second gear. Has anyone else had to fiddle with the gear change alignment after fitting one of these? Hate fiddling with the alignment. Took me ages to sort last time.

do you have the plastic 'spacer' in the right place?,mine broke up and was missing and I was having a hell of a time getting gears even though I had all new parts fitted to the linkage not long before that

there's quite a lot of adjustment along the whole linkage, did you follow the wiki? depends what gear box you have, I have a 4 speed and it's very easy to fit the gearbox bracket in the wrong orientation. If it's just 1st and 2nd it might just be the angle set on the splined joint.

May have found the problem. One of the captive bolts that the gearstick is bolted down with is loose so may be causing issues with alignment.
