Dave

I sent you hotwire details, if you make a three way spade link up and it doesn't start then it's unlikely to be switch.

you can also fit a new switch to the plug and use a screwdriver to turn the switch as a test.

hi itchy feet yes i tried the wiring using the pictures you sent me but it didnt work , i had already ordered switch by that point. i tried earlier to start it using screwdriver in the new one but it didnt work either , i can start the van direct from starter. so i am guessing its a loose connection somewhere in between ,
heading home from scourie tomorrow so i am hoping i can do trip in one go, then i will be able to investigate properly with , proper tools .
thankfully van broke down at a holiday cottage so its not been too stressfull ,

If you can trigger it directly then most likely corroded red/black trigger wire or spade connector at starter.
The wire can corrode several inches back as water wickes up beween copper and insulation.

Funnily enough I went out earlier to pack a few things away and I was looking at that wire from the connector and there is a split about 3 inches from connection and wires look dirty. Will get another look tomorrow before I set of

corrosion can go back 6 inches, more if split, just possible somebody cut it back and joined a piece before, its what you probably need to do if its corroded, when a wire has gone black or green its very hard to clean that off, easier to cut it out.

Glad you made it home Dave.
When I was dignosing my starter problems recently I had to cut back several inches of the trigger wire to find good copper to crimp a new spade connector onto. If it's at all black, keep cutting back.
