Handbrake balance thing!

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

Handbrake balance thing!

Post by rockthebus »

Stupid me removed the handbrake balance piece (where the 2 cables become 1) without noticing it's orientation.

My Westy is lhd so that will make a difference...

Which way does it go?

Thanks

Thank you for the diagram. Are 14 and 14a lock nuts? Mine just has a nylock which isn't a good fit to the balance plate.

If I remember correctly, the one closest to the bar is a special dome shoulder item to fit into a slight recess, the other is an ordinary nut for locking, though I'm sure you could use a nylock for that.

My bracket doesn't look like that. The open side of the U is plain. Photo anyone? Please state whether lhd or not.

Also I need to replace the nut. Any ideas of an engineering solution which does not involve buying one? Are they still available?
Thanks

All sorted now. I made the conical fastener from an m6 nylock nut, which I ground to have the conical face on the nylock end. Then drilled through 6mm to slide down the adjuster road and secured with a nylock nut. All stainless so hopefully will be good for years.
