What needs doing?
some jobs should only be trusted to a specialist.

Hi
Thanks for replying :) it needs diagnosing! I posted in the mechanical thread,it sounds like a similar problem to floras..
..it cuts out when hot and won't idle. After many restarts it eventually won't start at all.

I'm sure we can help narrow it down
What engine ?
petrol or diesel
Aircooled or watercooled
year of van?

Explain the fault in more detail, does it restart, how hot when cuts out, is it regular or intermittant etc

where in soton?

Hi itchy feet its a 1982 Aircooled petrol engine. It starts ok but then cuts out when it slows down, this gets worse and worse until it won't restart. It's a constant problem now. I''ve had the van 19 years and had a similar problem a few years ago. Annoyingly I can't remember what the fix was a. Small part was ordered quite cheap I think.... The garage don't seem interested in investigating and suggested I take it to a tuners that have diagnostic equipment. I rang dynotune but they won't deal with old vans. Thanks I'm in highfield

Did you call the Garage Aidan suggested?
If it was water cooled I would have been able to help more because I have loads of spare parts to swap but I'm not so familiar with Aircooled and have no.parts to offer.

The fault sounds like ignition amplifier or coil to me, sometimes you have to resort to swapping known good parts to find out which it is which is why some garages are not interested or will change loads until.they find it and charge for it all.

is it a 1.6 or 2.0 litre

Perhaps somebody local has these parts to lend ?
I can fit I'm just 2 miles away.

South Coast Transporters on Facebook is a very helpful group when trying to find specialists to work on these vans and the responses are very quick. Somebody may have a few spares for you to try out, the hub of the group appears to be around Southampton.
