Jx 1.6td misfire
Hi,
I wondered if anyone has any thoughts on an issue I am having.
A couple of weeks back, my low pressure oil light was coming on for a couple of seconds at a time mainly when slowing down on A roads going on to a roundabout.
I read somewhere that an intermittent issue may be the oil pump, so I changed the pump and the sensors. I also noticed that the oil cooling jet on piston 3 was snapped off so I changed that too.
Today on the first drive all was going well until after 60 miles I lost power and pulled over with the engine cut out, resulting in a recovery.
The engine starts with revs, but is misfiring.
No oil in the water or anything like that.
I disconnected each of the fuel lines in turn and the engine note didn't change on number 3, implying a problem.
My plan is to buy a compression tester to do a test before dropping the sump to check if the oil cooling jet I replaced is still there.
Is there anything else I should be looking at? don't really fancy saying goodbye to the jx apart from a bit of smoke on steep hills it always pulled well.
Thanks in advance

Re: Jx 1.6td misfire
Hi,
Could it be a faulty injector?

Re: Jx 1.6td misfire
Cheers Gary, I could swap the suspect injector with another to see if the misfire moves to another cylinder.

Re: Jx 1.6td misfire
I did have a similar issue once and it was the Injector as it wouldn't change the running of the engine as it's not doing anything in the first place. Hopefully better than paying out for a compression tester.
Re: Jx 1.6td misfire
Hope it is the injector, I will check it first thing tomorrow before I order the compression tester

Unfortunately I found some chunks of piston in the sump.
Not sure what has caused it, the oil jet I changed is still there.
Just weighing up the options, rebuild, recon engine, second hand engine, upgrade???

I'm not sure the JX engine had piston cooling jets?
Is your engine the original?

AGG sounds like a bit of a project, Ideally I want to b driving down the west coast of France in August.
There seems to be a lot of GTI engines about, so its tempting

JX block definitely has the cooling jets.
CS hasn't - unless someone has used a JX block for it like I did.

Re: Jx 1.6td misfire
Gotcha, I thought it was just the GTD engines had the jets.
Cheers.
