Diesel leak - JX1.6td

Post by Ddias369 »

Hi all
Have a diesel leak which appears to be coming from a pump Or something on top of the engine (jx 1.6td) and just wanted to see if anyone can give me any info on this (I'm not mechanical at all as you could probably tell from the "pump or something else" comment.) Also, I live in the south east (Eastbourne) so if you can recommend anyone who might have experience fixing this that would be great too.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Check the braided pipes between the injectors to see if they're wet. I've had two jx vans with the same problem. Dead easy to fix with new pipe.

Looks like it's leaking from the advance unit, you can undo it, 2 bolts and a gasket, any diesel place should be able to fix it in situ

Cold start advance lever shaft seal is an O-ring, can be replaced in situ but is extremely fiddly with no space to work - there is only one nut on the end of the shaft to undo. You need baby midget hands and adapt tools to accomplish it. The lever has to be relocated on the shaft in the correct position and the shaft held out from the pump whilst the nut is replaced. Not for the short tempered and easily dissuaded!

Took the van to automarine diesel in hove this morning. Met Dave who gave me a tour of his workshop and took a look at the pump.
Basically one of the seals need replacing and it's the one that is at the bottom , so the pump has to come out.
After removing it he called me up to tell me that there was some damage inside which was probably caused by the last garage overtightening the cambelt! Damnit!
Anyway, should be back on the road by Friday - so thank you all for your help

He also said my boost unit is broken so I'll need a new one- Dave is having trouble sourcing one (and I've checked brickwerks but had no luck) so if you know any other places to look where I might find a boost unit please let me know.
Cheers

Cheers, unfortunately don't have a pic of it, not entirely sure what it looks like. Will do some research tonight and see if I can work out what it is and then message you back.

Unfortunately nobody has any stock of the new LDA units at the moment. Dieselkontor own the machine that makes them, but the people who run it on their behalf have not maintained it and so it's not currently working. They reckon mid to late June at the earliest before it's up and running again, so your best bet is to either refurb your existing one yourself with one of the available kits, or find a decent secondhand one.

Hi Clift, thanks for the info on finding an lda. Have you used a refurb kit to sort your LDA out? If you did whereabouts can I find one?

Davidoft1, do you know if the lda is working on your pump? I've attached a pic of it below.
Cheers

Dave at automarine said I can run the van without it but it will be underpowered (I think it might not have been working since I bought it two years ago as I haven't noticed a drop in power - so once the LDA is fitted am looking forward to reaching 70mph [THUMBS UP SIGN])

Thanks for all the help!
