Early/late cooling system, etc?

Post by AngeloEvs »

Hello all, been a long time since I last posted on this forum. I miss my T25 and thinking of getting another but I have always had post 86 vans with the DG and later cooling system. There are a few for sale that I have seen but pre 86 vans with the earlier cooling system.

The later cooling system with the plastic thermostat housing had a bleed valve and it was easy to bleed the system and also easy to change the thermostat, etc. I looked in the Wiki and changing the thermostat looks like a bit of nightmare if the bolts are seized and also difficult to replace the alloy housing if things go pearshaped.

1. Not sure about bleeding the early cooling system and are there any other significant differences regards the DF and DG that I should be aware of or am I better waiting for a post 86 since I am very familiar with the DG?

2. Does anyone Know what the VW manufacturing improvement regards the anti corrosion were on post 86 vans?

Thanks and nice to see some familiar names still on the forum............. :ok
