JX Dalek cap??

Post by vwaddict »

I'm trying to suss out what's wrong with my JX, I've just brought it & the old boy said there was something wrong with it.... But he was unsure what.
I've sorted a couple of things out, but my question is when it gets upto temperature should there be steam/pressure coming out the dalek cap? Or does this mean the h/gaskets gone??

I guess you mean the spout on the cap?

Unless you are able to make 1 bar of vaccum with your lungs you won't be able to suck any air through the spout if a good cap, it should sound like a duck call when you blow through it

Your coolant system is a pressurised system with the engine running. I think that with the cap off, engine warm and at idle and assuming your coolant system is full, it will spill out everywhere. When you rev hard the level will drop with the cap removed.

There shouldn't be however if it's not holding pressure there will.
It sounds like it would be a good idea to use a block tester on it to determine if there are any exhaust gasses in the coolant.

It should be connected to a second overflow tank behind the numberplate flap, when the engine warms up the coolant expands and pressurises, some coolant will then go through the dalek cap into the overflow tank and is sucked back when the engine cools. However if it pushes coolant through immediately on starting then that would be a worry.

I tried one of these with the blue liquid that turns green ....what a waste of time, there's so much pressure at the tank it just blows the liquid out.

Not having a diesel t25 before I'm struggling a bit trying to suss out what's wrong.......I've been an air cooled man since day 1.
When it starts up loads of light grey smoke come flooding out the exhaust.....
No other diesel I've driven has done that....

If the pressure builds quick enough to blow the fluid out of the tester then it will be obvious what's wrong when you take the head off

That sounds like timing, try using the cold start and see if it is different that would confirm it.
