Bit of black smoke!

Post by bootie3367 »

Drove the van today, down the mountain and noticed a lot of black smoke coming out under acceleration, never seen that before. I had just changed the LDA shaft seal as it had been leaking there previously. Oh sorry, should say it's the JX engine. I also noticed a definite increase in power when in the boost range. As it's quite a long downhill, I am overrunning most of the time and nearly always get a puff of grey smoke when accelerating, which I consider normal for this engine. As far as I know the timing is fine, no problem starting and idling. Coming back up, the little JX does get a bit hot but there was no more black smoke. Should I be worried about the black smoke? (to me black smoke indicates over fuelling, yes?) Is there any adjustment that can be done at the pump or is it all down to timing?
