Pierburg 2E3 choke

Post by ian prior »

Hello everyone

New member Ian here, with his first post - hope it works!

Does anyone have, or know where to get, the plastic choke linkage that goes in the bottom of the Pierburg 2E3 carb? This is the linkage that lifts / actuates the choke mechanism. Our linkage has broken; Pierburg has stopped making the components, and I've not been able to locate the parts in the half-dozen or so potential sources that I managed to identify. Thank you!

This bit I think you mean...

Try gower and lee and bromyard vw otherwise you may have to buy a second hand carb and salvage the part as I did.

welcome to the forum.

Thank you! I'm new to this forum thing, so sorry for using the wrong section.

I've tried Gowers and Lee; where did you get your second hand carb from, please? Thanks again!

Oooh, this is bizarre, I've never entered this part of the forum before, I wonder what lays in it's murky corridors?

eBay is as good a place as any for second hand carb or the facebook groups once you get to know who the regular vendors are.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

second hand carb came from for sale section on here or brickyard, they do come up every now and again, you can try ebay as Mitch says also but best make sure it's a T25 Pierburg 2e3, they fitted them to many cars and many are slightly different.

You could also try the wanted section

I may have this part you need, let me check my spares.
:ok

About used parts.
I don't know if you know, but old VW's have quite a scene behind them.
There are many many VW shows throughout the year, a lot of the big ones have traders in T25 spares.
They are a nice for weekend camp, and you get your spare parts!
Bustypes, Busfest*, Deva Dubs, Dubfreeze, are all shows which I know have traders.

*best show for parts, and the biggest in the western world.

I was wondering the same thing. I've got a complete carb here in a box, and without taking bits off it I haven't been able to find that part. I've also got a few spare bits, so there's a chance I've got one of these, if I can only figure out what bit it is!

Glad it's not just me, although it is familiar

Thanks to all for their help!

Not having seen the parts I need myself, I need to work with the garage that took a look at the carb, to establish exactly which parts are needed. I'm going to look in the Haynes manual for an exploded diagram of the carb, which I hope will help; however, if anyone has a copy of Pierburg's manual that includes an exploded diagram of the carb, it would be great if you could send me a copy. I'm not sure if you can attach the document here; if you can't, please e-mail it to me at ian.prior@ajw-aviation.com. Thanks a lot!

Take a look on the Gower & Lee website here. That's also a good place to buy spares if they're available.

It's not there see, which is why we need to see it

Bromyard VW refurbish carbs.
They have a postal service and the carbs are tested before you pay.
Recommended.
Just saying. :D

Apologies - I missed the fact that you've already tried Gower & Lee.

I did take a look at some spare carb bits last night. I did see a plastic part that I think you're referring too, but didn't think to take a photo. If it's the part I'm thinking of then unfortunately it's also broken on my donor carb, and as far as I can see it isn't an easy part to transplant from another carb. I'll take a better look this evening and post photos of what I'm on about.
