1.6TD JX oil pressure testing - same reading both locations?

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

1.6TD JX oil pressure testing - same reading both locations?

Post by scottyh56 »

I have a 1988 1.6TD T25 Westfalia. Buzzing and warning light issues have lead me to invest in a pressure test kit and to my relief, taking a reading at the easily accessible top sensor I had 1.5 bar at 2000rpm when hot.

Then I read that in theory the test should be conducted at the oil filter, which is relatively inaccessible, at least with the tools I have. I have not been able to find anything anywhere that the readings should be the same although that makes some sense to me - but I did find one reference of a guy checking his oil pressure who happened to get the same readings.

Has anyone got practical experience of the readings to share on this please? After all, if different, the pressure at the filter may be higher and therefore even less need to worry. And if only 0.2bar lower the same applies.

With no unusual noises, smoke or power issues but 1500 miles plus of sensor issues I hope to put the major worry to bed and start thinking about all the other possibilities.

Thanks

Scott
