I know the OP is not looking for just an engine, but I thought it worth saying that, if you look further up this thread for member "ajsimmo" who runs Campershack, I believe he is getting into WBX re-builds to various levels, ie "repaired" to full on "all new mechanicals" ones. Andrew has done work for me (and lots of others on here) and I trust him 100% (Note, I am not connected to him in any way, other than as a satisfied customer and I believe good service should be recognised).
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

Lpg also didn't appeal (had it in a 2wd) a small tank takes up a lot of space in a camper, and I found myself always looking for fuel.
Whether you get a petrol or diesel, just accept your likely to have to rebuild or replace it.
Cost of Marios conversion is I think 4k +? But you get a brand new engine in that. He runs MV engineering you can look him up on Facebook and contact him.

for piece of mind, id go with Marios conversion, if i can get the syncro for the right price, and if my insurance doesnt want to tear my bank account in half, then ill spring for it if i can afford it, if not, ill have to slum it in a 2WD

T3 2WD are really quite adept off road with the right tyres.
How many people's parents, grandparents, nutty uncles have driven half the way around the world in an old split and a spare pair of shreddies?
Remember the time we did some lining in the dales and Dave Pickles did almost everything in his syncro with no prop? Syncro are not the be all and end all of off roading oading, sure they do make life easier but if all your doing is going down a bumpy track, across a moist field or driving through puddles once every 6 months you would be better off spending the money on a better 2wd.

bikermike87 wrote:A 2wd with decent tyres, lSD or rear diff is a capable vehicle. I know this as I had my prop out for some time and still managed on some of the tricky areas I frequent. It would be good value to get a decent 2wd westy and make some subtle mods (wheels/tyres, suspension lift, LSD). You can still get stuck with 4wd, you just tend to be in an even muddier / deeper situation

Having said that, my 2WD van was USELESS off road!

Then again, you tend to get more ambitious with 4WD..

4wd will get you into more trouble than it will get you out of.
