Water in exhaust

Post by lokisdad »

Hi All,
Well the 2 week honeymoon with the Caravelle is well and truly over. I’m getting clouds of white smoke out of the exhaust which turns out to be steam. Coolant ( about 1cm in 30 minutes from the header tank) is getting into the exhaust of no. 4 cylinder. In the short term – unless the exhaust valve is open - it’s not getting into the cylinder or sump but just gets blown out when the engine is started. I suspect there must be a crack in the head between a water channel and the exhaust port above the valve. So have any of you experienced people out there come across this before and if it is a cracked head can they be welded or should I source a second hand one? Also can the heads be removed with the engine in situ? (It looks very tight!)
Thanks in advance for any help.
