Well I was going to fit them last weekend, but instead I decided to have another go at adjusting the KS tappets to 2 turns. I haven't had enough cold starts since then to know if it's made any difference.

It took me some time as I wanted to make sure each tappet was fully 'relaxed' before adjustment, so there were a few steps (6 valves then the other two), each with a couple of waits - once to let the tappet relax, then again to let it settle after adjustment to get compression back. But they're absolutely, definitely, no mistakes, properly set to 2 turns now, so if they still mess me about they're coming out.

Would be good to hear from Tobydog about his hardness testing.

My clattery starts seem much improved since giving the tappets 2 turns, rather than 1.5. Not yet perfect I think, so I'm tempted to give them another half a turn each. The theory being that all loaded tappets must compress a little when the engine's off, since the oil must seep out under the pressure of the valve spring, but by giving extra pre-load the internal spring will push the plunger out with greater force once the engine starts up. Any reason I shouldn't try another half a turn? I think provided I get compression in all cylinders that's all that matters isn't it?

I'll wait for a week or two to get more experience with 2 turns first though - maybe a job for the Christmas break.

Haven't forgotten, ordered one and received a set of eight. Thought it would be a shame to break the set up, so I ordered another one, guess what only one turned up. Usually see a very good friend every week that owns a wire eroding/precision engineering company, trouble is that he's moved about 20 miles away. I'll sort a visit from work to see him. I'm planning on doing a few measurements and checking the Rockwell hardness, depending if his hardness testers is setup.

If either of you would like the set of eight, please pm me.

Thanks for the kind gift tobydog :ok

My DG is very noisy and I was about to order a set to try before I have to make a decision on my DJ build.

As soon as I can I will pop them in and give them a test, not going to tell us much about hardness but at least it will tell us if they hold pressure.

look forwrd to your testing results.

incidently just been chatting to 123-jn who has the same issue with KS tappets

Yes I used a set in my 2.1 build last year. They are slightly better than when fitted but still bleed down very quickly. Whichever ones are under spring pressure when I stop will be bled down in less than 20 mins. In fact when the engine is hot they can bleed down enough to make a racket at tickover. I have only tried 1.5 turns as this is what I have always used but I will try 2 instead as soon as the 10 inches of snow have moved off the van!!! I have good oil pressure of at least 65psi when cruising and 20-30Psi at tickover so there really should not be a problem. Oil bypass spring is next on the replacement list just incase it is a bit weak. (I don't think so though)

I'm guessing you are Ronan?

I'd be using 5 degrees ran my injected DJ for 1000 miles last summer through France on regular fuel ( guessing thats E10) with 5 degrees and it ran fine

Hi everybody . Many people on this post ,many technical and quality informations , but i m the only one who have the setup with DJ pierburg and n distributor ?

I have a problem for the timing ignition
My distributor was in contact with the fuel pump and its impossible to have 10° for timing.

move all leads leads around one position and rotate the dizzy accordingly, then set it up again with strobe.

Its late and my brain is fried but I think you move the leads clockwise then rotate dizzy anticlockwise 1/4 turn, then the same lead is is the same position relative to the rotor arm as when you started, somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.
