**Forum Migration ** We've Moved...

Postby HarryMann » 21 Jul 2009, 13:08

See last post now..

We are moving to a new Host this weekend 25th/26th July

The forum will probably be turned off Sat morning for several hours, we cannot say for sure, think 4 hours minimum, 24 max

From today:
Attachments will be disallowed (so don't be surprised if things disappear, they will come back)
Garage uploads will be disallowed
Wiki editing is locked
Profile avatars may get lost if you add or change them in the next few days

But basically no, biggies, 99.9% should be retained upon restart on our new address: to be announced

You will basically need to change your bookmark, link, desktop shoprtcut whatever you use to access the forums here:

The old forum (this one) will be locked but a new link address will be displayed, so go there and then bookmark it anew.

It would also be a good idea to clean out all your PM boxes, if you wnat to save any then put them in your Saved PM box.
We cannot guarantee that PMs will be carried over, so everyone should have a wee cleanup

There will be a new forum on the new host as well as the live one, and the Wikipedia. This new one will be a Technical Archive, Read Only - so no need to even logon to it, everyone can read threads/posts. The current Tech, Syncro, Alt Fuel, camping, Modifications, Alt Engines etc. will be trimmed back to 'last post over 2 years ago', the Tech Q&A to 'last post over 1 year ago'

So if you can't find an old Tech thread, can browse/search the Tech Archive, which will be occasionally updated as the live forum is pruned along those lines.

So we'll have Wikipedia, Tech Archive forum and the Live forum.

There may be a few others changes, but nothing too drastic...

All in the name of having a bit more control over our forums, their management and performance, which will remain substantially the same but be somewhat less prone gross overload from outside forces, and if it does slow down, should degrade gracefully without coming to a full stop so frequently

Thanks for your anticipated co-operation, please pass this message on to those you know who may want to know but might not be harking before the weekend... :ok

Shouldn't be, once or twice this week you might have noticed a stop or go-slow, for 5 or 10 mins as work was done in daylight time, but no more than that... overall, it's been behaving itself reasonably :P

Although it's difficult thes days to discover where the host's physical servers reside, initial enquiries have indeed pointed at Romania, so we might well all become Ethernet Gypsy Travellers next week - quaint or frightening - your choice :|

We're all doing our bit for cross-culture ethnic relations, real or imagined :)
