PLEASE - Entitle your tech posts meaningfully !

Postby HarryMann » 14 Dec 2010, 01:13

Thanks...

Please use sensible and descriptive Subject Titles, this makes searching, sorting and subsequently moving them if misplaced about 1000 times faster (for the Mods who have to do this)

Thanks again...

e.g.

Hi, just asking..

Heeelp!!

Now if only I had some...

Doesn't quite cut it, as far as any idea what is in the underlying post, so please, try to make it (at least) ever so slightly descriptive

Agreed :ok

And it (obviously) makes it much easier for those of us wishing to help or just comment to pick relevant posts out.

Often (slightly) bugged me that has.

Agreed. My technical knowledge is not nearly as encyclopaedic as most on here, but I have toiled over my van long enough to help some people out (not least with 'what not to dos'). However, My web browser (firefox) shows a box outlining the first 100charachters or so of a thread when I hover the cursor over the title. Is this not a forum feature?

It is indeed, Mr Chuckle and was introduced at the last major upgrade we undertook to phpBB3

How does this affect the matter though?

and when Mods are sorting posts out, in the Moderator Control Panel, only the Subject is visible, albeit sometimes risible

Ah, I didn't think about it from the viewpoint of the 'guts' of the forum!

No point then I guess, I'll get me coat.

Title: keep blowing bulbs 1987 petrol camper.
Van details: 1.9 DG engine, 65 amp/hour alternator, 1987 etc
Description: I seem to be replacing bulbs every other week, they seem ever so bright etc
History: ever since fitting a new alternator......

MORE INFORMATION PLEASE........you are exactly right, you find yourself asking several more questions to get all the information needed to make a reasonably accurate diagnosis/reply when.....the information should have been there in the first place.

Any new threads with crap titles should just be deleted, imho. The more crap titles that there are floating around in the tech forums, the more it encourages others to post with crap titles!
