lights on warning buzzer

Post by billy739 »

somethink i have accidently stumbled upon!

this works perfect , but not as intended!
this makes a buzzer sound if your lights are on and the ignition is off, it is not effected by open/closed doors!
i know this isant as most peeps would like but its easy and available!

also this will only work if you have blade fuses as fitted to late 86ish 'c' reg vans on

this also only works if you have the 99 wiper relay fitted, not the 19 or no intermittent wipers.

basically what you need is the 292 relay as fitted to late caddys and from what i can see most late 90's on seats!

all you have to do is plug it into slot 7!

i have put this mod on several vans now without problems
this is the relay as it fits in the seat/caddy , so you know where to look. it sits out of the fuse box in its own little carrier!
e note!

this is the relay fitted to my van

i have put a pair of relays in the for sale section.

Yep. Works like a charm. Nice warning noise. Not an angry buzzer

Now if only there was something similar for my 1984 'rocco...

Honest - it was really easy to do.

I did it in a couple of minutes, by myself, and the van is still running, and the wipers still work!!

the number 99 relay is the wiper relay....just pull the relay number 19 out, and replace with the 99. The 99 is a fair bit longer than the 19 so it sticks out further.
the buzzer relay sits at the end of the board in postion 7. When you look at the fuse box, you will see 7 raised in the plastic....and it will only go in one way.

But the thing would buzz if when you fill up you leave your lights on.....I am happy with that...as Billy says, its not triggered by ignition off, door open.
And if you need to sit in the van in the dark, with the ignition off, you can leave your parking light on...and no buzzer!!
REMEMBER...this mod will not stop you leaving parking lights on when you leave an indicator on and turn the engine off!

Does anyone know of a similar 'warning' solution for a 1986 van with the older-style electrical system?

The relay position for this mod is instead of having a relay for the front fog lights, which I do have, so I don't use it. The simplest way to do it without this is to get a buzzer from maplin, and put the positive cable to the light feed, and the negative to the ignition or X bus - this goes to earth with the ignition off and sounds the buzzer. You can do other stuff with the door switches too, but this works well for me.

it's in the wiki here:

Looking for one of these 292 relays now, as here in Finland, you must have your lights switch on all the time whilst driving no matter what the time of day, and Im always forgetting to switch my lights off, thanks for the tip! :ok

Just done this mod, after finding this thread, two seconds to take fuse cover off, and
Plug relay in to location number 7. ignition on, lights on, ignition off, warning buzzer, excellent.
I used audi part number 443 951 307B. Got my part through Audi

Job done.
