did you get lucky on the gear size or will you need to swap your old gear?

Thanks for that question. The camshaft was from a DJ engine. The gear wheel looks very similar to the one on my 1.9 DG engine and is marked in a similar way. But I would be very grateful for any knowledge on this. The other question I have in my mind is that I may have to find DJ rockers and pushrods if they are different. Not sure if I've put this in the right section, apologies if not.philmcC

cam has a number stamped on it it can be a plus or minus
if its too small it can be noisy because of too much lash
if its too big then you can't use it

rocker adjusters are 10mm for DJ but you could probably away with the 9mm I'm sure others have jusg inspect regularly.

pushrods same, don't reuse stretch con rod bolts

Thanks for that itchy feet. Sharing your knowledge is very helpful. The only numeral on both camshaft gear wheels is 0. They both have a punch mark as well. I have a new 2.1 crankshaft do I have to check for anything on that?.PhilmcC

Thanks for that. It is a new crank from VW classic parts mecatecknic. Cost approximately £270, which I thought was okay and this is the only project I'm doing. The crank has a red mark on it. I bought main bearings at the same time so I guess I will have to check those.philmcC

red bearings afaik only available from VW and expensive
they probably sold you std bearings which means you have a bit more play than ideal

Good to know that. Yes the ones they provided are standard bearings. I have joined Flickr but have had a lurgy for the last 10 days so not particularly motivated to take pictures. I will do soon.philmcC

worth measuring up the red crank to see what end of the tolerance it is and yes start a build tread or all this chat gets lost
