Hi guys. Planning on dropping the oil and changing the filter this wkd. Appreciate it’s not a complex job but my first attempt and just wanted to check a couple of things. What’s the best oil to use? Quick check online has suggests 5W/40 synthetic (it’s a mid 90s Legacy/Forrester engine)? Does this sound right? Anything in particular I need to be aware of with the filter?
Apologies if these are pretty basic questions - just want to do a belt and braces check before I start! Cheers.

Re: Oil filter and oil change
Use the correct oil for that engine/model of Legacy.

Thanks silverbullet. That was the plan. Just wandering if anyone on here with the same engine set up has a recommendation as trawling the internet has thrown up a few different points of view as to which is best. Cheers.

Re: Oil filter and oil change
I use the Gulf 5/40 synthetic from Euro Car Parts.
I got a 20 Ltr can when it was on offer (and a few filters too) as its correct spec for a couple of other cars in the family as well ...
Best
