Hi
Anyone installed aftermarket water temp and oil pressure (or temperature) guages ? (Having successfully knackered the original one by attempting to disable the blinking (literally) light ) -
I would like to have warning that'll shout with a degree of accuracy if somethings going wrong with engine, water and oil wise... At moment I'm relying on my spider senses such as a sniffing of the engine and temperature of heater output in the cab
I see brickwerks do a nice little pod for the ash tray place -
any advice on plumbing in/attaching water and oil sensors to the EJ20 block.
When I understand how they work - I will also make the water level probe alert me to low coolant level - I have a few little 12v buzzers.... - what witchcraft makes the 2 probe in the water things work - out of water do they break or make a circuit ?
Thanks
Matt

Re: Subaru Aftermarket temp and oil pressure/temp gauge
Hi Matt , I have a set of TIM gauges fitted for my ej20 engine .
Water temp, oil temp and oil pressure.
All easy to fit and so far have run with no problems .
Mine are mounted in a 3 gauge pod on the dash , cost a few quid off eBay
Just trying to instal a rev counter

Re: Subaru Aftermarket temp and oil pressure/temp gauge
Thanks
How do the oil gauges plumb/plug into the subaru block to take readings ? -
Does the "canister" that screws into the place where the oil light wire connected read both pressure and temperature and convert them to an elec signal to the gauge -
I assume its not like my 1970 mini that pipes the actual oil to the pressure gauge ?
Thanks

I use a set of Stack Pro Control Stepper Motor 52mm gauges with my EJ25 setup.

They are not cheap, but they are fully configurable and you can programme them to trigger warning buzzers, fans, lights... whatever you want. You can also programme the gauge backlight to change at predetermined points to get your attention too. Probably the best gauges I have ever bought in all the years I have been spending money on car/van projects.

They are all electrical and use senders . If I remember correctly r,the water temp is taken from a drilled and tapped port off the crossover manifold the oil temp and off an unused port on the left side of the block . Pip pressure uses an extended hose and adapt or off the original oil pressure port.
