EJ20- stalling at junctions ??

Post by matt brighton »

Hi

Apparently a common "niggle" mentioned on subary forums -

throwing up the no 24 fault code - "open circuit/bad IACV (idle air control valve)"

Ticks over smooth as butter - revs and settles fine - but annoyingly cuts out if coming to a stop under braking (foot) and engine braking too.

Seems connected with changes in inlet manifold pressure caused by overrun/braking servo ... or of course faulty IACV

I have tested the resistance on the solenoid which is ok and cleaned the valve up too.

However ......it runs absoloutely fine with the thick vac hose for the crankcase pressure valve (not the brake servo valve) disconnected from the manifold .

Do you recon is IACV or the Crancase PCV ?

Am I harming anything apart from the planet if I run the engine with the thick hose to manifold venting to air ?

Thanks for thoughts

Matt

I have raised the tickover very slightly on the screw adjustment throttle stop - seems ok now but getting error message 24 on overrun still.

Clears itself after a few mins tho

Have you connected the nps wires together. Richard at rjes told me to do this and the stalling stopped.

Thanks

I was advised that manual cars leave it disconnected and auto - connected, but as you and richard say - go with whatever works.

I will see how it goes.... and if stalling recurs I will reconnect the NP wire.

Overall its running fine so far , but for a few niggles -

Im keen to install an aftermarket water temp and oil temp/pressure gauge to the subaru... just need to get a bit more info, so i understand best way to connect the gauges to the oil and water systems

Best

matt

To the back of the speedo, with the rjes loom front extension

a plastic tab breaks off the rear of speedo revealing x2 unused threaded holes- the pick up wires come on a holder that just screws in and it plugs into the loom which holds x2 led's for immobiliser led and engine check light
