Golf Clutch

Post by Ernest »

Hi all

Good news is that my two campavans (T25 and T5) have been running really well during a very enjoyable summer.
Bad news is a problem with the clutch on my Golf. Last week I had to reverse the golf up a very steep drive and
during this action masses of smoke came from under the bonnet and the front of the car, along with a strong smell
suggestive of heat. That was last Friday and since then the car has covered about 150 mile seemingly with no sign of
mechanical problem other than the smell continuing. I am thinking that I might have 'burnt out' the clutch and yet
it is working fine - any ideas/advice would be very much appericiated.

Best Wishes

Sometimes the clutch does get hot and put out a bit of smoke.
When they cool down they nearly always work okay.

You will have shortened its life, be gentle with it and should be okay.

Dear Titus A Duxass

Thanks very much for the reassuring feedback - at 63,000 miles I suppose a new clutch was about due so
shortening the life of the current one can be accepted.

Thanks again
