Well the case and crank have gone away for line boring and grinding (and balance checking) respectively, should have them back in a couple of weeks. Then I can accurately measure the crank-cam centre distance and see about getting a new cam gear made (damaged by the crank shunting up and down)
I've also ordered some EN40T nitriding steel so that I can make a couple of camshaft blanks and then get them ground to DJ profile, taken from my only NOS DJ cam.
It'll be easy going after that!

As I said on FB: proper Holman Engineering work

Getting an idea of lobe orientation for rough milling. Not easy when they are all worn, so using a small vee block to approximately find full lift at the centre height of the machine (4" in this case)

Good old fashioned proper engineering.

Just a thought, would it be easier putting the cam into a 3D digitiser. You can then get the CAD drawings, make whaever other changes you want to make (like removing any wear) and then produce the final article either old tech or new tech ???

If you wanted to do another one you would also have that ability too

I'm making the blanks then taking them to Newman Cams for the profiling, its specialist work with dedicated machinery. Its just a DJ cam with extra lobes really, they have it on file after I took in a NOS 2.1 cam.
Have to get the lumpy metal sticks made first...

ECU wiring harness grommet: I have a nasty feeling that my spare was given to another project...and I trimmed the one that was fitted to an LPG loom (now salavaged)

But it looks the same as Golf 191...part so there's a chance that any efi VW one will be the same?
The T3 part is a (251) 971 905 C part number but now NLA

Well the 357... ones are too small, meant for a 46mm hole but used somewhere else on some T3's and T4's?
BW have found that the 251...are still available (fitted to T5 up until 2010) but then UPS managed to deliver them to the wrong address...

What size hole are you looking to fill?
I have a 1H0971840C from a MK3 GTi loom. It looks to fit appx 50mm hole and then bellows down to a 25mm sleeve.
Yours if it’s any good?

Thanks, but I have now got the correct ones coming: 52mm hole, 16mm inside the neck.
Its a nerdy detail, considering that its a conversion from carb to efi, but its ALL in the details.
