Camshafts are nearly there, only just worked out how to pitch out the gear fixing holes in the end. More on that later.

In oil pump news: looks like Schadek have decided to start making pumps fill size again (this one is actually snug in the case!) so I wont need to O-ring this pump other than putting one in the front to seal the cover.ImageImage

Giving some thought to using the Aldon Amythest mappable ignition system. Because it works from a locked distributor and uses its vacuum signal, everything looks standard with no external triggers or sensors but with the benefit of tailored ignition advance for all load/rpm conditions, which means a better burn and hence fuel efficiency savings.
Ok so maybe not so much, but it all helps and this system comes ready built and is well proven.

Not much progress at the moment, but the wbx6 aircon compressor mounting that I have been loaned has gone off to a new-to-us foundry as a "test" job.
I still have to work out what the steel adjusting bracket is supposed to look like, but one thing at a time.ImageImageImage

Very nice.

Took some of our yr10s to a engineering college to work on lathes and millers - they loved it.

Pardon the pendantry, but...

A turner works a lathe.
A miller works a milling machine (mill)
Grinders...er, grind!

Have your pupils seen what the latest multi-axis DMG machine tools are like? Just amazing.

It's slow progress...work and home pressures, the usual.
Plus I now need the crankcase to check dimensions for new wbx6 water jacket seal tooling (early days on that project)
Got some plating back today though, always a good thing ;)ImageImage

Managed to get a fixture knocked up out of scrap bits, so that the new cams can be drilled & tapped and the oil pump drive slot milled in.
Bit of a caper but not the first time its been necessary to hang the work off the side of the Bridgeport table.ImageImage

There it is, 11 off M6 tappings. When combined with a 50T cam wheel, that gives a nice fine vernier to get the cam dialled in.
The oil pump slot will go in after profile grinding (probably have to be sparked in) since it cuts across the centre and that will cause wheel bounce = poor finish and worse.Image

The aluminium-bronze cam wheel has now been ordered. Reassuringly expensive, but it's a 1-off made from tough material.
Its being cut to these centres, which I gauged with slips and using a 25mm ground bar laid in new bearings (in place of the worn-out cam)
I have also provided the gear-cutters with the crank gear that will go into this build, so they can achieve the correct mesh with minimal backlash.Image

Picked up a useful bargain for the installation this weekend, £60 the pair :)
They use generic 4-wire sensors so I'll have an extra boss added to each manifold when I get to that stage (in addition to the ecu's own MV-spec lambda)Image
