Doh, of course not, it's a WBX6, that's what happens when you're helping someone with another VW air cooled car on another forum and your throw a 911 picture up.

Even so, despite the zircotec, or fake zircotec coating on those exhausts, there's no aftermarket solution for a 964 that gives better running, unless you want to spend over £3k, and even then the jury is out. Original design is good

Its a 4 litre, 24 valve, revs to 9k and develops 500bhp with twin cats.
I think the exhaust must work reasonably well?

That's standard for a 991 GT3 motor, but if they are getting that out of a 964 engine, that's pretty good. I was only commenting on the exhaust design though, in the context of the standard 3.6.

Still air cooled I observe, so not for winter use, unless alternate cabin heating arrangements are provided

That's normally aspirated hp, no turbos.
Singer are a California outfit building toys for the very well-heeled Porsche obsessives, so they have no need of winter equipment!
That particular exhaust design has some appeal because of its symmetry: each head could have an equal length 3-1 manifold each side (the middle cyl having a corkscrew pipe similar to those on the Speedshop system)
It avoids the need for joining the headers from each bank with a pipe that crosses under the bellhousing (tricky on a syncro because of the under-run transmission and sump protection) and the merged 180 bends that act as a collector are also good for efficiency (much better than having a long balance pipe between the two banks) so that could release some power too.
It also has the potential to improve ground clearance and departure angles when off road, especially at the corners, by tucking the silencers up under the D post corners.
If it has twin cats as well, it will be cleaner running and they also help with silencing.
I have given this some thought.

I know it's 500 HP n/a, I know Singer and as I said, I have seen something like this on a ramp. They produce something I'm just not a fan of. I mentioned the Zircotec coating earlier. I was once in a queue for some components to be treated. Williams were at the counter in front of me, Jordan F1 behind me. I stood there and thought I hope I'm not paying the prices these guys pay.

It's absolutely fine if you like or appreciate the exhaust design, I can see you have given it a bit of thought, I have heard a lot of rubbish spoken about exhaust design. I just thought it would make the cheap shot that someone can pay the best part of $2m and not have a heating system (I know that was for a race car so not absolutely necessary, depending on when and where you are racing). It shows a narrowness of perspective, IMHO

Good luck with finalising the design

Ah! Ok, sorry for the misunderstanding.
Well it won't be coated, that's for certain!
I made a model from pipe cleaners, an ear plug (catalyst) and a wine cork (silencer)
:D
Three equal lengths at the cylinder head, I reckon its possible.Image

A listing with another design to consider - later 997 model

Twin cat, silencers up in the D post, very compact design below the engine

Slashed up the "spare" syncro exhaust heatsheild to accommodate the engine's extra 113mm length (Oettinger never bothered to fit one afaik)
I want to do this properly, helps to keep muck out of the belts if nothing else.
There's not much space left for the exhaust, its a wonder that Oettinger managed to get a 125mm dia sillencer behind the valence!ImageImage

Clearances and positioning look good, based on 630mm reference dimension (pulled from another van) from bellhousing face to rearmost limit of heatsheild

Finished the turning on the camshaft blanks at last, +1mm on the bearing journals. Now to get the flanges shrunk on, which has to be done before I can get the lobes rough milled.ImageImageImage

Further exhaust notes: remembered that I had a couple of stainless 2" 1D bends knocking about for another project, so I offered them up to the heatshield to see if they will work as (half of) an X-crossover pipe.ImageImage

Camshaft vernier. Because I still have to get gear cut to suit this engine, I realized that I can exploit the 50-tooth nature of the gear by using either 9 or 11 fixing screws/bolts and get a vernier with reasonable resolution.
The outer row of.circles represent the gear teeth btw.
11 bolt looks good, it gets me adjustability to plus/minus 0.655 cam degrees, so that's 0.328 crank degrees :)ImageImage
