New van, 1y 1.9 with a turbo fitted, water hose split, dumped water, didn't catch it in time cooked the engine. Have very limited time so looking to do the simplest engine swap possible (I've done a 1.6 1y to 1.9 1y non turbo in precious van so would like to do a similar swap on this new van) if I can't find a decent 1.9 1y donor what is the next simplest transplant. I'm not fussed about gear ratios or top speeds, I just need a camper that isn't a paper weight asap! Any help and advice greatly recieved! (I've got a 1.9 seat Ibiza s reg that's been offered but don't know what the engine code is yet) I'm a bit nervous of anything turbo'd as I don't understand what plumbing is required etc. And feel a bit out of my depth with ending that isn't naturally aspirated...

Look for an AEF from a Skoda Felicia 1.9D or a diesel Polo around 1998
There's a full guide to fitting here http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/1-6cs ... KW=#413096" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It's a very similar 1.9 N/A engine to the 1Y but has the Lucas injection pump.
Read the guide carefully, especially about exactly what bits you need to buy.
I've done 30K miles with mine now and it hasn't missed a beat.

My 1Y came out of a 1998 Caddy - another vehicle that you could look for. I am with you on keep it simple. So much easier to work on ( if you don't cook it ).

I have an AEF as well. Several thousand miles so far and still running well.
I think you can fit a turbo to them but not sure whats involved in doing that.

+1 for the non turbo AEF...
Skoda Felcia, and I believe SEAT Toledo too .
I put mine in 6 yrs ago and runs sweetly - came out of a Felecia
am soon to replace with a Subaru 2.0 petrol but no complaints about the AEF - reliable - economic to run and an easy swap

You can't fit a turbo to an AEF. Block is marked 1.9D.
