Hi all,
I'm swapping my crankshaft pulley and having troubles taking the bolt off. I've done the 'starter motor blip' method with a breaker bar (hold breath) but don't think my battery has the oomph (old!). It's been put in with thread lock about 2 years ago when it was installed.
I've got the flywheel inspection hatch out (plastic blanking plug under the throttle body) but it's awkward to get something into the teeth. Am ii missing something? Is there a hole (threaded even?) I can get a bolt in, and would that be enough?
Cheers !

Yikes, not so keen on that one, though im sure it'd work! There's various locking tools available it appears. Ranging from proper things to an open jaw spanner jammed in the teeth... I might just try and remove what I can from the area to get more visibility and see if there's any holes I can use.
Someone standing on the brakes in 5th gear sounds like one approach too

Re: Locking the flywheel, ej20
use 2nd gear it's stronger you don't want to damage 5th gear teeth they are very fine if you try something like that
why are you replacing the aux pulley ?

Re: Locking the flywheel, ej20
Ok, 2nd it is
The crank pulley has started to delaminate I think (the rubber binding) so has a bit of an off kilter wobble. I got a used good one for a tenner though. The bolt looks like it oscillates too, which it always has done so I just want to knock it off the to do list.

Use the tool with the 4 pins and rest the end of the handle on the ground and undo it with a breaker bar.

I'll have to exhaust all first methods before getting a special tool. I did find a hole, probably no more than 6mm though. Thought I might get a punch in there ? I don't want to shear it off, but maybe that'll be strong enough? Read some people use screw drivers...

Re: Locking the flywheel, ej20
New plan. After seeing this image from Bentley for the wbx, Ive made a 'tool' to lock the pulley instead. I was thinking that only pinning bolts on one side of the pulley wouldn't be a great idea (is not opposite ), but if the Bentley says it's ok, I'm saying it's ok too.
