Re: Turbo conversion 1.6 jx
Well it would work, but why do it? What's wrong with the " jx" turbo, pump etc?
I dont think, so I'm not[do I exist?]

I have 2 spare non turbo 1.6 jx engines and & 1y 1.9 non turbo engine. I have also got a 1.6 gtd jx turbo motor, I was just thinking if the bits off the turbo motor would work on other non turbo motors that i have in stock. Just a case of using what i have rather than keep buying more.

Ok,just make sure that the " non turbo engines " have " piston oil squirters " fitted.

Re: Turbo conversion 1.6 jx
Sounds like a confusing mixture there. What is a GTD JX ? Turbo gtd means what exactly - what is the engine code?
JX engines were turbo - do you mean CS engines which were NA (naturally aspirated)?

Its the jx engine from a mk2 golf gtd, hence Gtd jx. Runs a different inj pump as well.

Re: Turbo conversion 1.6 jx
I think that you ought to read the engine codes on those engines and find out exactly which ones you have.

Perhaps you could tell me what they are from the pics. 1st 2 are what i know as a jx 1.6 Gtd engine
This i believe is a standard N/A 1.6 jx engine
And this is a jx 1y 1.9 N/A diesel
I stand to be corrected with any of the above

Re: Turbo conversion 1.6 jx
As I said you will have to read the engine numbers to know what they are.
2nd pic shows a 1.6 NA engine - the block should have TD cast into it if it were a turbo normally.
If you can't be bothered to read the engine numbers you will have to check the blocks internally to see if the piston cooling oil jets are present - if they are they are suitable for turbo.
You seem to be bandying about JX willy-nilly - there is no such engine as a JX 1Y! 2 completely different engines.

So very sorry to of upset you as i said i stand to be corrected. I have never once said im the gospel.
Just assumed they were all jx castings. But hey what do i know.
I'll continue with my mix and match and see how things go. At least i might be able to advise others, rather than put them down.
This 1.6 jx turbo engine is listed on ebay. I have added the pictures so you can see there is a decal on the rocker cover stating Turbo Diesel.
But no casting on the block as you state saying TD just 1.6D

You are on your own - I'm out as you don't seem to want to take on board anything that is stated to you, not just from me, from Dave also.

Re: Turbo conversion 1.6 jx
The JX engines I had only had 1.6 D on the block, is it the case that the later engines had the TD on the block.

Sorry to jump on this thread, is the 1Y the same one you were selling a few weeks ago? If it is and you aren't using it I'd be interested in buying, did PM previously but no reply. Perhaps you could drop me a message, thanks.

Hi yes it is. I sent details to the mobile number you supplied but didnt get a response. But im going to use all the gtd bits and convert it to turbo now. I have read an article on the Brickworks forum which rates this as a good conversion.
