timing belt change

Post by jas915 »

Hi made a start on changing the timing belt on my AAZ, can the crank alternator pulley be removed without taking the silencer off? Im sure i didn't take the silencer off last time i did a belt change but that was 5 years ago.
There isnt much space though
thanks

I use a cut down short hex insert out of my Allen head driver bit set, and turn it with a 10mm ring spanner to crack it off, then an open ender. It just fits, (AEF engine) but I suppose it depends what silencer you have fitted. I have to rotate the engine to get at each bolt.

Renew the bolts each time, cos if they round off you've got a real problem.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

got it off, had to undo the silencer bolts and pull it back a bit as i could quite get the hex and spanner in. Yeah i was thinking of new bolts, sure brickwerks sell them, need a new water pump too, play in the shaft and sounds gritty.
