Oil Drip

Post by Mark S »

AAZ (1.9 TD) using JX manifolds and K14 turbo.

Bus went in to garage for some work recently. Got a phone call about a 'major problem' they had found - oil was dripping from the exhaust pipe. I suspected it might be coming from the turbo caused by overfilling, and therefore asked them to drain the oil before carrying out the dipstick mod as described on this site's Wiki. They stated that when they refilled with 4.5l of oil (the filter was changed also), the oil came up to the MAX mark. I suspect this was before they ran it up and filled the filter. It is currently halfway between MAX and MIN on the modified dipstick.

Problem is, oil is still leaking when running as spots can be seen dripping off the tinware after parking but it ceases once it has been stationary for a while. Unless there is another leak and assuming the sump oil level is now correct, would folk agree that turbo oil seals are the likely culprit? There is also occasionally some grey/white smoke on acceleration (but not on start-up). Otherwise all seems fine.
