AAZ engine parts availability

Post by windy »

Just bought an AAZ engine to replace the ageing, oil burning JX lump in my van & wondered wheres the best place to get parts for these?

I got ripped off & the crank is very likely scrap due to a heavily seized big end so I'll need a replacement of some kind. Are they still available new or is it a case of putting a wanted ad for a good used one out on here? Also need a con rod as the shells had spun in there causing scoring. I see on Brickworks site that new cranks are available for the JX, but not listed for the AAZ.

If my van wasn't a daily driver I'd probably overhaul the original JX engine, but I don't want it off the road for long so think the best option is to get the AAZ properly sorted & swap them over.

Yep, was a long drive in heavy traffic to fetch the AAZ last weekend, and when I got it home & took the bearing caps off too see what condition things were in my heart sank.
I did get in touch with the chap & he recons it ran perfectly before he removed it. Waste of time arguing with a fool

Get the crank measured up, you can take up to 2mm off so it would have to be "feck" "feck" to be unable to get a regrind out of it, a good second hand conrod will be easy enough to get hold of, gsf are worth a call or vw

If you know what vehicle the engine came from originally then could try autodoc. Have a comprehensive range of vw parts.

Hi,

I might be able to help with some used AAZ spares for free if any use. Complete but partially stripped due to excessive oil consumption. It was very worn top ring on cylinder number 4. I ended up swapping the engine for another good one (lucky find). As far as I am aware rest of engine good, but now high miles, as I put over 60k on it. No damage to crank or end bolt that I am aware of, it was a totally reliable runner up to the oil consumption issue but still got us home from Spain. Your welcome to come and have a look based in Elton near Ellesmere Port.

Cheers Phil
