CU Aircooled crown and pinion in diesel gearbox

Post by z3i »

Hello guys, haven't posted for a while, doing a td conversion on my t25. I've sourced a 4 speed gearbox and Bellhousing from a 1.6d, it's quite a revvy box. I've found an Aircooled cu gearbox for cheap as spares or repairs. As it doesn't stay in gear, I'm thinking off stripping it, removing the crown and pinion gear and fitting it into my diesel box (unknown code) to give it a higher ratio, I know the cu boxes had high ratio final drive

Just wondered if anyone has done similar. Anyone got a workshop manual around? And can anyone think of a problem with this, many thanks

I'm pretty sure it's a totally different pinion shaft in those two boxes.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

Weddle industries have NOS crown and pinion ( very expensive ) . They have them for air and watercooled, 4 and 5 speed and the part numbers are different.

Thanks for that, appreciate it
If that's the case, I'll just get one from Adrian Talbot

Wouldnt it be easier to get a good DK box used on the 2 litre Aircooled and just swap the bellhousing ,input shaft etc and do a rear linkage mod on your van.
