Water flange/thermostat housing

Post by lefty67 »

Got an annoying leak from the bottom of the plastic flange. Have replaced the o ring and cleaned surfaces and checked for any cracks but still leaking. Only happens when its cold and only a few ml over 24 hours. Is there any kind of sealant I can use?

probably warped plastic, you could try a thicker o ring, sealant is a bodge but If I was doing it I'd use Dirko S or Reinzosil which is used on WBX water jacket, not cheap though.

Replace it - once they have warped (common) they will never seal correctly. Cheap enough.

Which one have you got on there? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Passat-Cad ... xylh1SJ-l3 £2.75 inc postage.

Problem is Im struggling to get hold of the correct flange. It's the one where the pipe is at 45 degrees, I can't get the hose gonto a 90 degree one. Think it's off an early diesel and brickwerk are out of stock and eurocarparts have the 90degree one.

It's the single pipe one with the 2 bolts but pipe is at at 45deg ish rather than 90deg

Mine has an aluminium cover....part number starts with 056 instead of 048. They look to have pretty much the same angle of outlet.

Finally got it sorted after a bit of a struggle sourcing the right flange, unfortunately the diesel one from vw heritage didn't fit as the coolant pipe wouldn't sit correctly on the flange pipe. Got the correct one from autodoc, flange is a Vaico v10-0283 for any one in similar situation.

Of course the pipe may well be different to what is expected - who knows what has been used to make the system work.

From what I can see all the pipes are from brickwerk it's just the flange is in an awkward position also the pipe from the vaico one is a bit longer than the standard vw diesel one. I suppose it's part for the course for a modified engine.
BTW I've got a standard diesel flange if it's any use to ypu8, only fitted once for about 5 mins :D
