After market fuel pressure regulators - Subaru

Post by boardmonkey »

Hi,

Has anyone installed an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator on their Subaru setup ?
I'm looking at purchasing one, just wondering wether to get one or stay with stock Subaru....

Thanks, Richard

Depends on what your doing really , the Subaru one works fine , iv taken mine 09 Sti to 530bhp on the standard one ,,can't really see any benefit from adding it to a NA engine in my opinion other than they look nice as without a larger pump and proper mapping I can't see any gains to be had ,,, if you are having it mapped then it may be of benefit as you would be able to increase the fuel pressure slightly but still not sure with a NA engine if it would be worth it

I fitted a nice aftermarket one, was much cheaper than replacing the suspect stock one. You'll need the correct adaptor for the hose to fit to the fuel rail, where the stock one goes.mine works fine. just avoid the cheap ebay ones.

Thanks, what was the one you got, how much did you pay for it...? eBay is a bit of a minefield with "pooh" parts....

Cheers for the post, mapping - maybe - not yet. Just want to get the bugger to run...

Ah right I thought you had it running properly now,, so you have a fuel problem ? , best and only fuel regs I use are fuel lab , sx and RCM , although RCM are quite expensive ,, my sponsor advanced automotive in Bristol sell a few and being a Subaru engine specialist they know what works and what to avoid and are well priced ,, mention me and ask for a discount lol

iv ran my Subarus with full fuel rail and reg set ups and with all the original set up and have found the original fuel system works very well ,, but this is all on turbo engines that require a lot more fuel than a NA so I'm not sure how much is relevant to a NA engine

I have now got an injection tank fitted - which has made some difference but not cured it, I can touch the throttle and bring the revs up....otherwise it dies...The van won't tick over unless I clamp the return fuel hose...Will give AA a call :)

Well it sounds like your looking in the right area as iv never herd of that sort of problem with the reg but all this conversion stuff is fairly new to me as I'm only used to working on the complete Subaru lol ,as you prob know the fuel pressure reg works on the return so it does sound like it might have a fault and returning too much fuel but it's really hard to say without being around the van and knowing what's been tested ,,, if you do end up needing a hand let me know and I'll try and work out getting down to you , not sure if I'll be able to help but I'm willing to have a look if needed and know my way around a Subaru engine as iv been working on and modding them for the last 10-15 years :ok
