Well let's not get carried away now

200 Nm should be achievable but bhp is only a function of torque and rpm. To get big hp you need consistent torque at higher revs, but that's not something that 2-valve per cylinder engines are particularly good at acheiving (compared to 4-valve designs)

The Oettinger 2500E engines made 140PS (metric horsepower) iirc, I would be very happy if they made that kind of consistent torque through the rev range, it's all down to the cam design. The Speedshop exhaust will help a little, the pistons are good bit lighter than the originals, it all helps.

Anyway, it was delivered safe and sound to North Wales yesterday, the lads seemed impressed with the pipework and we talked though the couple of fitting tweaks which should make the installation a little closer to optimal.

PS I can tell you that oil pressure was 55psi @ 10 deg.C cranking, not quite 60 psi at idle with 10W40 oil.

Once it's all done I'll try and get it on a rolling road and get a clearer idea of output. To be honest I'm not interested in lots of horses just having a van that can keep up with the traffic.

There's already an oil pressure gauge in the van. Forgot to ask Ian did you tap for an oil temp sender?

Maybe later investigate the custom ECU......

I wish you had said that earlier Phil! Thankfully the oil take off has a spare M10x1 tapping with a blanking plug (socket head)

When you say 'spare' Ian, spare for a pressure sender or spare for a temp sender?

I mean an unused tapping for oil temp.

So... after the first 170km through the twists, turns and hills of mid Wales I can report the engine is very smooth, very torquey, pulls well from low revs and looks to be no worse than its 2.1 predecessor on fuel, possibly better. I won't know until I can brim it a couple of times and record distances. Not gone over 3000rpm yet so no more than 100kph but it gets there pretty sharpish..for a van.
