Re: Subaru EJ 20 going in Jambo van
The subaru is stuck at work in the carpark at present but looks like I'll be getting it back home in a week or so ( sorn and no insurance ) thdn i can start to strip it out and flog what I don't need.
Luckily we have some big jobs in for BP at the moment so getting plenty of overtime to pay for the conversion parts .
I started the scoob last night , been stood for a week, and it started first turn, ran lovely and smooth.
Realy looking forward to getting it in the van .

Hi mate
Just thought I'd give some advice before you start stripping the engine out just in case you have never done a Subaru before,,, one thing that normally gets everyone when there doing this for the first time is separating the engine from gearbox ,, not having removed a NA engine I'm just assuming it's the same setup as a turbo,, they will not separate until, you have removed the the clutch fork pivot bar , you can also pull the fork out via the hole but this way is far easier ,,, beside the fork there should be a Allen head inspection plug (shouldn't miss it) remove this then get a threaded bolt (think its about 10mm) I normally remove one of the cam bet cover bolts and use that as its the right thread ,, thread this into the end of the clutch fork pivot bar inside the Allen hole and then pull to remove the hole bar and release the fork
If iv not explained it ok then just let me know and I'll try again or can take some pics of mine for you

Put on hold for a while due to Central heating boiler catastrophic failure and associated expense
Oh well, will give me time to source a few more bits and pieces.

The project is back on after a long , long wait . Finaly got the engine out of the Legacy and stripped. Need to remove the wiring look now , God it's like a tangled piece of my moms knitting . I was realy pleased with how easily the engine came out .

You should have seen the technique I used for reversing the car up the drive so we could drop the engine

Re: Subaru EJ 20 going in Jambo van
Looking good! My EJ25 is finally ready to go in on Saturday. We took the heads off to do the gaskets and that lead to a world of hurt. Keep the pictures coming, I'm hoping to upload some on Saturday.
