Hello guys.
Haven't been on here in a while. Myfanwy's been off the road for over a year. Got her MOT and I'm smiling again...except the 1st and 2nd gears are making awful noises. Had a quote for 700-800 to fix the bearings. But have decided to go for replacement box.
Trouble is the bus is in a local garage, he's a very busy mechanic as most are, and has had her up on the ramps twice and says he can't see the code and has only given me the engine or Vin number....so I am going up after work with a wire brush and a torch to look myself as I don't want to nag him anymore!!
Where should I look, would it be easy without ramps. (I can get underneath ok as big tyres and high suspension!)
Any pointers would be appreciated guys
Cheers

Ah ok great cheers! Just spoke to the garage, they're going to get it up on ramp tomo and have a wire brush to it! Fingers crossed.
Does anyone recommend getting a replacement or have it fixed and rebuilt?

Re: trouble finding Gearbox code
Afaik there are no new, if you exchange it you are just swapping one old box with another thats been rebuilt.
The issue is often, can you wait to have yours rebuilt?
what engine and how many speed?

Re: trouble finding Gearbox code
Aidan Talbot is usually your man but has a significant wait this time of year, send him an email and see what he can do. He can supply parts but lots of special tools are needed so I would not trust a local garage, need to use a specialist I think.

I have heard these people mentioned before...

this should help if you know what original engine it had
