Re: The Toad's DG to AGG Gti Conversion
Anyone looked beyond VAG for a filter housing? Earlier Disco/Rangie EFI has a steel tubular one and iirc V8 have a pipe entry each end. Tdi may be the same but longer. Cheap and plentiful, easily modded.
I used a similar Rover SD1 EFI filter can on the SA, shortened a bit and got that in the LH side.
PS you cant go any larger than 190mm diameter if you want it to be serviceable and not rattle

I'm trying to stay VAG for TüV reasons.
At present I have a Hyundia Getz filter, the TüV man didn't look too closely but next time....

Buy a filter housing sticker from Baxter?
The metal can is unmarked, no part number stampings...

Re: The Toad's DG to AGG Gti Conversion
I had a Disco 200 tdi airbox kicking around for a while, it's quite similar to the JX one, with a very similar filter element. Clive has it now.
I recollect seeing quite a nice mod where a JX box had been shortened, and a shorter cylindrical Mann element fitted. No idea what the element came from though, some research needed on Tecdoc.

Mann sell "Pico" airfilter housings, that's the same as what a JX one is but they have a massive range.
Or, make one?
Also, I think on the Mann+Hummel website you can search for filters by dimensions.

Re: The Toad's DG to AGG Gti Conversion
Righto, Tonight was the night. Coolant in (as much as could fill from empty), Fuel in (about 4 gallons), Oil and gearbox fluid done ages ago, Battery charged, Plugged in.
Result.....
Engine turns over fine, I can hear the fuel pump prime. But not firing up
Can't help thinking its a fuel issue at the mo as the pump/filter must be dry. Not sure how easy it will be to fill with fuel when under the van.
Its a MK2 Pump
Any ideas welcome

Checked + and - right way round? Pump could be spinning backwards. You got a spark? Checked for codes?

Will check but pretty sure they are correct. Dont have a code reader but I think I know someone who bought a cheapo one recently so I'll see if I can have a lend.

Re: The Toad's DG to AGG Gti Conversion
Ok so the latest is that I have primed the pump/filter disconnect the pipe from the fuel rail and sent 12v direct to the pump.
The fuel is now gushing out, so that's sorted
The engine now fires up for a second and then promptly dies. I am pretty sure the immobilizer is preventing the engine running although how it stops it I have no idea.
I have also borrowed a code reader and I am getting a linking error.
I have wired up as per the Garyd bible and am pretty sure the immobilizer is connected OK
Bit stumped now
As an update, I have just tried the code reader with my combo van and my wife's scenic and its got a linking error on those too, so looks like the reader itself is a load of crap!

Rosstech VCDS Lite is a free download and a USB cable off Ebay is only a few quid. Have you taped the key to immo coil or what ?

Re: The Toad's DG to AGG Gti Conversion
IT LIVES!
Well to say I'm a happy bunny would be an understatement, Was dancing around the drive way earlier like a right loon, god only knows what my neighbour was thinking, Was not long ago that he was telling me i'd bitten off more than I could deal with.
Not sure what Is wrong with the code reader, I can't get it to link to my Combo or the wife's crappy scenic.
After a tip from Elvis about different key positions it fired up.
Just have to bleed the coolant system and the last little job is to fit new clutch slave cylinder pipe, as the bracket position is in a different place.
