Our first bus

Postby Torquay25 » 19 Aug 2019, 14:45

Just bought our first T25 pop top bus a few days ago, I have so many questions to ask but all in good time as she needs a few bits doing

Campie is a 89 1.6td T25, 2 tone blue bottom with an off white top. We love her already and will be out and about all over the south west I'll be sure to wave to all the other T25's we see on our adventures!

Good luck with yours, I've had our first one now about a month and a half now, already been on holiday in it and finding out bits and bobs about it as I go.
Just some advice, No matter how good it's been looked after by previous owners expect to find some gremlins, I know I did.

What kind of gremlins did you find? I've only had a couple of festival outings in mine to date so keen to keep an eye out for gremlins :)

Let's see, uh off the top of my head, things I've changed in the past week two weeks:

Put correct oil in as the engine was just below the lowest level when I got it.
New speedo cable and clip (had no clip on the end so I thought i'd swap it all out)
Rocker covers and gaskets (old ones were knackered, leaking oil)
Coolant pipe between pump and thermostat (cracked)
Coolant pipe off left hand side of engine (split)
Expansion tank (cracked)
A couple of fuses, dash lights decided to pop two fuses ( checked the wires but everything was OK..)
Replaced split relay on the leisure battery side as it wasn't charging at all.
Removed the cig lighter and it didn't charge anything, gotta get a new one or a USB alternative.
Flushed the coolant system as it was super nasty, have water in the for time being to make sure there are no leaks.

Things I gotta do are:

Drain coolant system again and put correct coolant in.
Get a loom made up (or buy one?) for my south african lights I installed.
Redo all the vaccum lines ( I have cut the ends of a couple of the lines on the carb as they were loose as hell seem to be OK now but I'll probably renew the lot to be sure.)
New fuel tank and lines (Current tank is wet looking on a lot of places and I can smell petrol a fair bit.. so that's next months job)
Figuring out the performance issues, seem to have a dead spot and have to put my foot down more than I should sometimes, (I guess that could be fuel/carb/vaccum related??)
Take the Carb off and give it a good clean out and service.

Today I found out a couple of things as well....
My fuel gauge is VERY optimistic as I ran out of fuel about 2 miles from my home.. oops! ...
And the right hand side lights don't come on when the hazards are switch on, however the lights are OK.

Quite the list by the sounds of it, I suspect I will be blissfully unaware of my gremlins until they bite me :(

Appreciate your insight, after this weekend my van is going back into the garage to get all my pipes changed and bodywork done. It’s good to be able to highlight things to maybe check even if my bill does grow somewhat.

Rather have a van I can use than a hideaway in my drive :)

I'd advise reading the Wiki that's linked on the technical part of these forums they are very helpful.

Good luck with yours
