New new Top Gear

Postby silverbullet » 07 Jul 2019, 20:18

Playing catchup, so watched the first three episodes back to back last night.
I haven't laughed so hard at anything for ages :D
Genuine charisma and wind-ups between the three presenters and a gently revised format (Stig laps now online, so more actual broadcast programme content)
The set-pieces are still there, but the presenters are enthusiastic and keen once again.
Better than the three old Grand Tour stooges any day.

Yes I accidentally surfed into one of those episodes and didn't recognize it at first. What happened to that that American sounding chap and the other crew - not that I really care. Might give it a go now.

Yep, after being forced to watch it while staying at a mates house for a night I’m back into it. Never thought I’d say that...thought I had grown up  Freddie cracks me up, he’s a proper wind up merchant! All 3 seem to click off of each other really well...like Top gear of old but even better.

Mr LeBlanc got fed up with the transatlantic commute, or so I understand.

The last incarnation of TG was not a show of equals in the presenter stakes, imho.

Celebrity millionaire presenters as usual but a lot more fun than the Clarkson cabal. I was amazed to see him crying on Amazon over a change of format! Shame Rory Reid was sidelined then left though as he seemed a bit more representative of the man in the street.

Yes I recon they thought they could just chuck a load of dosh at it and carry on regardless. I Prefer BBC to the commercials in (not on) principle but it just shows how they never really understood what they had in the first place  .

Hmm, slightly dissenting voice here

The latest threesome are I think the best since the Clarkson trio, there is a recapturing of the teasing between them, but it's neither as amusing or as irreverent and controversial as it was. No rolling about on the settee moments for me yet. Seems like a low fat / low sugar version of something that used to be really good.

Better ? - definitely, and it is once again set to record every week, but I get the feeling that Chris Harris has a lower profile that Freddie and Paddy

How many ways can you do a motoring show? Well there's the Fifth Gear way (a bit dull, but factual and objective. More like a 1970's car show) or there's the TG way (fun, a bit silly, but not taking itself too seriously)
I like both, but for unwinding on a Sunday evening TG hits the spot.
I thought that Paddy's reaction to how much FF had spent on his "first" car was revealing.
More relatable than the Clarkson era

Now that I've found a legal way of watching UK TV I been watching this latest incarnation.

I think they've found a good replacement - I didn't see much of the ginger freak era so cannot compare.

If you have a dish of sufficient size it's always been easy to get Freeview, at least in the Western part

https://satellitenempfang.info/british_tv_channels.html

and another link just because it has a T25 in the banner

https://satfi.co.uk/coverage/

How cool is that 8) 8) 8)

I had genuinely forgotten that Evans was ever in it!

Which is fine if you have permission to hang a dish off your rented property.
I prefer streaming solutions which is how I satisfy my present TV needs (MotoGP, WSBK, Australian V8, Darts, Fishing TV, with Amazon, SkyTicket and Filmon for my banal needs.

Mrs Bean can usually spot a bad'n at first sight and she doesn’t like him. There’s got to be something in that.
However you might ask how I slipped through the net all those years ago!
I often wonder whether it was the quiff and sideburns or the Norton Dominator? :rofl
