Its IRS remember, not live axle.

Ignore the XK120 axle tube behind it, its a Red Herring!

Looks like earlier engineering 50s-60s front engine rearwheel drive, low slung chassis judging by the pinion shaft extension, so short propshaft and the front mounting possibly in the tunnel. Merc Gullwing ? Of course the above may be a load of pretentious rubbish and probably is due to the size and iron casting :D
