Temporary Insurance for van MOT

Postby maxstu » 04 Sep 2018, 07:58

Any recommendations please? Please offer advise if you have actually used a company....not my mate aunts neighbour mentioned etc etc please....too many dead ends.
I saw one company on here and on contacting by email was informed no longer offering short term policies.
Also l dont want to search online...get a price...then return to it 48 hours later and find its has doubled in price. Got stung that way with important train journey..£24.00 to £73.00 in 24 hours.
Regards

Don't know of any but can insure and then cancel within 14 days. Will need to find out what the cancellation fee is though

Thanks to both. Not heard of relaying under MOT Station policy? They are very VW friendly (actually Morris Minor specialist but one mechanic owns a Westphalia) and quite relaxed.
Thought about canellation but have always been asked at renewals "have l for any reason cancelled insurance in the past? "

Motor trade insurance lets a garage drive any vehicle, so easy for them to pick up & return, no cost except perhaps for time. Handy if it's on a mechanics route to work & they know you / are friendly

I used dayinsure to get 24hrs insurance to drive my van home when I bought it. Reasonable enough.

Haven't you got that round the wrong way - shouldn't it be " have you had insurance cancelled" that is what is usually on mine.

What a joke! Dayinsure want £392 for 28 days with £1000 excess on ££3K vehicle.
Garage policy only covers radius of 10 miles and I'm 16 miles.
Got my own plan for this one. And I'm keeping it to myself.

As the name implies it is a company designed for very short insurance. If you want it for a month better to get a proper policy.

Sounds like ~£14 for a day to me, I thought you only wanted to take the van for MOT ??

True but not confident van will pass. Booked for 9th. So l though a bit of extra would be beneficial to drive it around and find its issues. Could try 14 days if you break it down like that. Plus lm away for five days 14-18 sept. So was looking ahead if l could not get van MOTd straightaway
Maybe a rethink.

In that case you don't want day insurance.

So long as you have a daily driver a 12 month classic policy will be a fair bit cheaper than 14 days day insurance.
